Helen O’Loan APDG is an acclaimed Australian Production Designer working across film, television, and commercial projects. Most recently she has been nominated for two 2025 APDG awards for her work on the global Netflix hit Mother of the Bride (dir. Mark Waters), which reached over 77 million views in its first two months and the internationally distributed Black Snow (Goalpost Pictures, STAN), for which she also received an AACTA nomination for Best Production Design.
Other recent projects include the International Emmy®-nominated Deadloch (writers- Kate McCartney & Kate McLennan / Dir Beck Cole & Gracie Otto) and Audrey (dir. Natalie Bailey), ‘a deliciously snarky film about a girl in a coma that explores a thorny taboo with sharp gallows humour’. Premiering at SXSW 2024 and screened at BFI London Film Festival & MIFF, now streaming on Netflix. Her work on Audrey was praised for contributing to the film's bitter sweet, dark & complex narrative.
Her expertise and approach developed in Oscar, BAFTA, AACTA and ADG winning art departments (The Great Gatsby, Unbroken, Pirates of the Caribbean, Chronicles of Narnia, Peter Rabbit). She also has extensive experience in the field of advertising, having designed many commercials and installations, Including the Nike / FIFA Brazil ‘Joga Sempre’ campaign, ‘a playful romp set in a hotel that's been taken over by the Brazilian National Women's soccer team’, for dir. Sarah Chatfield.
Originally from Melbourne and trained in Sydney with an MA in Production Design from AFTRS, Helen’s international experience living in Tokyo, Hong Kong, London, and now Queensland, informs her creative approach. She is known for crafting nuanced spaces and bold visuals that support key themes and thriving in the collaborative process.
Helen is an accredited member of the Australian Production Design Guild (APDG) and is currently designing the production “Two Years Later” for Paramount + (dir Emma Freeman & Lucy Gaffy).
